Dark shades need neat application to keep looking flawless day after day. Good prep, the right base coat, top coat and hydration: here are the steps not to skip for a dark manicure that lasts.

1. Prep your nails

Your to-do list for prepping your nails before applying colour:  

• File your nails into your desired shape (square, round, squoval, almond…).
• Soften your cuticles with cuticle remover, then gently push them back with a cuticle pusher.
• Gently buff the surface with a prep file.
• Clean and thoroughly degrease the nail to remove dust and residue.

Good preparation helps you apply polish more evenly and improves its wear time.

2. Don’t skip the base coat and top coat
